Introducing…Willow’s puppies–Born 10/20/13

I thought I had updated this blog, but I accidentally put it on our family’s blog! Whoops. Willow had three little sweeties Sunday afternoon. Two girls and a boy. In these photos, they are always in the same order, the darker shade of beige girl on the left, then the boy, then the lighter girl. The lighter girl on the right has a stark white blaze that is noticeable in the following picture.

Only the little male is available.

Both girls are most likely sold.

Meet our new Chief

Meet Squaw Creek’s new chief, Chief Paw-Hatan, that is. Looking to get away from so many solid colors and get a few more parti colors in here, we brought in this gorgeous little poodle stud. He has a bit of growing to do, so we look forward to meeting his puppies, Lord willing, in early Fall of 2014.

Mary Joy–August 14–8lbs 6oz

Sorry, but I will not be responding to any emails for at least a week due to medical issues. Winking smile

Mary Joy was born at home August 14. At home you ask? Some of you know the story. Yes. I was 13 days overdue and thought back over all the praying we had done to ask the Lord fix the placenta previa that, at the last moment, forced us to plan a hospital birth, and thought, I’d really like to have an ultrasound to just see if the problem was resolved. I mean, why pray for something if you’re never going to check to see if the Lord answered your prayer in the first place?

At 12 days overdue, my OB and midwife called to tell me the ultrasound results were that the placenta HAD moved and my OB cleared me for a homebirth. Crazy! We had waited 13 loooong days past my due date for this little girl and guess what happened the morning after we were cleared for a homebirth? I went into labor and she was delivered at 8:04pm, Wednesday. Healthy and with a voracious appetite. My smallest baby yet at 8lbs 6oz!

That sounds all wonderful and we saved a ton of money verses a hospital birth, BUT I had my wonderful first experience of riding in an ambulance, 4 hours after the birth because of hemorrhage, surgery, my first general anesthetic, blood transfusions and a two day stay in the hospital! Ha! And I thought a simple birth would be expensive, I had no idea! So the cost of puppies just went up $4500..…just kidding.

The new way we do things…

Out with the old, in with the new. The way we structured our waiting list just isn’t working for us…or you. If you are already *on* our waiting list, never fear, things will pretty much stay the same until you have your puppy. The new changes will take place with all litters being born from Aug 1, 2013 and on.

For those just finding us and considering a purchase of a Squaw Creek Puppy, please email me and I will place you on our list. When a litter is born, you will get an email notifying you of the new litter, stats and a link to our blog for pictures.

After that point, it is first come to deposit, first served. You are welcome to come visit the puppies at your convenience, but we will not hold puppies for you. No deposits will be taken until after the litter is born. As soon as I receive the deposit in the mail or in person, that puppy is yours.

Thoughts on Children and Puppies

First off, let me begin by saying we love children, after all, we have 9 of them. We have been asked several times for our position on children and dogs as some of our customers have been turned away from other breeders for the simple fact....they have children.

We consider this close-minded to lump all children into the catagory of Puppy Abusers. This is just not true. All children whose families aquire a puppy must be taught before the puppy comes in to the home, to first, be caaaaalm with the puppy. Always talk softly and act softly. Puppies feed off energy and get riled up quite easily...this isn't a good thing with children. Puppies will get accidentally stepped on, dropped, or sat upon causing serious injury or death. Not to mention the emotional trauma to the child.

Your young children must be properly supervised at all times and all children trained how to handle a puppy correctly. If you DON'T want a puppy that bites, snaps, is hard to potty train or an I-gotta-lock-him-in-the-bathroom-he's-driving-me-crazy type of puppy...then train your children to love on the puppy with gentle, soft words and actions. Crate train to give quiet time. Set the example for the children to imitate. Children learn best by observing and imitating, not lectures or a quick spoken list of rules. Be patient.

We give our puppies the best possible start, a better start than most breeders can offer, in the fact that our puppies are socialized with children who love a good playtime and never allow biting(but we do allow kisses!) or rough play. What you expect from your children will make, or break, a great family dog. Puppies are very impressionable and resilient, just have fun with them and your children in a controlled environment.
