These little guys(yes, they are all males) are ready for forever homes today. They are Squaw Creek ShihPoo’s smallest puppies with an adult weigh of around 6-8lbs. Right now, they are 8 weeks and barely 2lbs each.

The little brown guy is now SOLD and on his way to Alaska! Our first Alaskan puppy. Freddie(left) and Teddy(right) are still available.

This is Freddy. He’s the larger of the two blacks(we’re talking a couple ounces) and the one in the middle in the picture above.

Teddy is a charmer and an ambitious little stinker at that. Tonight he was playing keep away from my daughter with her pencil. The pencil was as long as the puppy.

Teddy

Freddy is not the most photogenic in these pictures, he really is a twin to Teddy. VERY cute. He is currently sitting pathetically in his puppy pen whining for me to come hold him. He is a real people person, great with children and full of cuddles and sweetness.

Teddy, then SOLD, then Freddy. Freddy looks much bigger in these photos, but there really isn’t much of a difference, this picture does not show accurate heights.

Tessa said...: So adorable! I had a tough time finding someone at least close to us that breeds these great dogs- We are in Redmond, OR. I've been doing a lot of research on breeds as we will soon want to add to our broken little family- I say broken as we lost 2 dogs recently. One to old age, 15 (Blake- a rescue Golden we've had since he was 9 mo.) and our deer Ransom (6 year old Yorkie- lost during surgery!). We have our Joey left- Shih Tzu/Maltese mix (10). We are all heartbroken and are worried about our Joey. So I'm looking and we are falling in love with ShihPoos :). Be sure to update.; February 16, 2012 at 8:52 PM

Thoughts on Children and Puppies

First off, let me begin by saying we love children, after all, we have 9 of them. We have been asked several times for our position on children and dogs as some of our customers have been turned away from other breeders for the simple fact....they have children.

We consider this close-minded to lump all children into the catagory of Puppy Abusers. This is just not true. All children whose families aquire a puppy must be taught before the puppy comes in to the home, to first, be caaaaalm with the puppy. Always talk softly and act softly. Puppies feed off energy and get riled up quite easily...this isn't a good thing with children. Puppies will get accidentally stepped on, dropped, or sat upon causing serious injury or death. Not to mention the emotional trauma to the child.

Your young children must be properly supervised at all times and all children trained how to handle a puppy correctly. If you DON'T want a puppy that bites, snaps, is hard to potty train or an I-gotta-lock-him-in-the-bathroom-he's-driving-me-crazy type of puppy...then train your children to love on the puppy with gentle, soft words and actions. Crate train to give quiet time. Set the example for the children to imitate. Children learn best by observing and imitating, not lectures or a quick spoken list of rules. Be patient.

We give our puppies the best possible start, a better start than most breeders can offer, in the fact that our puppies are socialized with children who love a good playtime and never allow biting(but we do allow kisses!) or rough play. What you expect from your children will make, or break, a great family dog. Puppies are very impressionable and resilient, just have fun with them and your children in a controlled environment.
